(GALVESTON) — Galveston firefighters today announced their strong endorsement of Joe Jaworski for the Texas Senate, saying that the former Galveston Mayor Pro-Tem is the best choice for helping the area meet the public safety challenges of the future.

“Joe has worked with us for years on public safety and emergency preparation issues,” said Charles Olsen, president of Firefighters Local 571. “He has the energy, leadership, and vision Galveston needs to move forward.”

Firefighters Local 571 represents 125 professional firefighters in the city of Galveston.

In 2005, Jaworski worked with local firefighters and other first responders as Hurricane Rita approached and won praise for his role in that region’s emergency preparations and response to the devastating storm.

Democrats gathered in Alvin this past weekend to raise funds for a competitive election season, one that’s sure to heat up in coming weeks.

The first annual Brazoria County Donkey Festival, which took place at Knights of Columbus Hall off Highway 6, recognized all Democratic candidates running for offices ranging from U.S. Senate to County Tax Assessor.

Besides a silent auction and bake sale, Democrats had to pay up to take pictures with a live donkeys and a Barack Obama cardboard cutout. (more…)

(GALVESTON) - The Galveston Municipal Police Association today endorsed Joe Jaworski in the race for Texas Senate District 11, saying that the former Galveston Mayor Pro-Tem has a proven record on public safety issues and a clear vision for guaranteeing that state government will do its part to provide local law enforcement agencies with the tools they need to protect our communities.

“Joe knows how to hold government accountable for doing the right thing,” said GMPA president Jimmy de los Santos, a Galveston police officer. “He is law enforcement’s clear choice to fight for public safety and public integrity at the State Capitol.”

A former three-term member of the Galveston City Council, Jaworski earned a reputation for working closely with local police and public safety officials, and helped lead the region’s efforts to prepare for Hurricane Rita in 2005. Elected in 2000, Jaworski won re-election in 2002 and then again in 2004 as Mayor Pro-Tem, before stepping down at the end of his third term to launch his current race for the Texas Senate. (more…)
