Challenger’s Campaign Continues Momentum With Another Key Endorsement
(GALVESTON) — Texas Senate candidate Joe Jaworski today received the unanimous backing of the Texas AFL-CIO’s Committee on Political Education, representing more than 220,000 working men and women across the state whose political muscle, campaign knowledge, and get-out-the-vote expertise will now be available to his surging campaign.
“Joe Jaworski comes from a tradition of energetic public service that working men and women appreciate,” said Becky Moeller, president of the Texas AFL-CIO. “His promise of positive change and independent leadership is just what the voters in Senate District 11 are demanding as they look to the future.”
The Texas AFL-CIO is a federation of groups representing local workers and oversees a variety of effective legislative, political education, and community service programs.
Jaworski is running on a comprehensive reform agenda to ease the pressure the growing financial pressures facing middle-class families and small businesses. Among his proposals:
Boost public school investment and make college tuition affordable again
Fully fund Children’s Health Insurance Program and draw down billions in available federal health care funds
Relieve traffic congestion and pursue job-creating alternative energy solutions
Obtain necessary resources for local law enforcement agencies to make communities safer
Enact strict ethics rules that hold elected officials accountable for public integrity
Jaworski is running against a 20-year incumbent whose voting record is a litany of anti-worker votes, from opposing workers compensation reform and increased state contributions to the Employee Retirement System to standing against tougher consumer protections and anti-discrimination practices in the state’s fair housing policies.
Public service is a Jaworski family tradition. His grandfather was respected Watergate prosecutor Leon Jaworski, and his father, Joe, a former partner in the prestigious Houston law firm of Bracewell & Patterson, is a founder of the American Leadership Forum and co-founder of the Global Leadership Initiative.
Jaworski served three terms on the Galveston City Council, including one as Mayor Pro-tem. He is on the board of directors of the Children’s Center in Galveston and is a member of the University of Texas Medical Branch’s Community Service Excellence Committee. He was appointed to UTMB’s BSL-4 Community Liaison Committee, a group of local leaders charged with strengthening communication between the institution and the community about the university’s infectious disease research program and high-containment laboratories.
Jaworski practices mediation and maritime law and lives in Galveston with his wife, Rebecca, and their two children.
